Bad Wurzach — a 3D model from the air.
In Bad Wurzach (district of Ravensburg, Germany) we captured 1,468 aerial images by drone — straight down and at an angle onto the façades — and computed a georeferenced 3D model from them. Rotate, zoom and measure it right below in your browser.
Figures from the EXIF data of the image set (flight on 18 May 2023).
3D model of Bad Wurzach.
Mouse or touch: drag to rotate, scroll or pinch to zoom. The model comes from the same processing pipeline we use for orthophotos, elevation models and point clouds.
Buildings and land that cannot be fully captured from the ground.
Roofs, yards and the surrounding plots are hard to document completely at ground level. Classic aerial photos, on the other hand, only show the top view — façades stay invisible.
Nadir and oblique images in a single flight.
The flight with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro took about 75 minutes. Besides the vertical grid we deliberately captured oblique shots of the façades so the model is closed on the building sides as well.
A georeferenced 3D model anyone can open in a browser.
OpenDroneMap turned the 1,468 images into a textured 3D model — no special software needed on the client side. The service itself is described under aerial 3D survey.
